What you’re actually paying for
If you’re comparing swim club membership fees in Queensland, here’s what you’ll pay to join Redlands Swim Club, and why.
Participating in Redlands Swim Club involves three separate costs, paid to three different places. Here’s the simple breakdown.
1. RSC Membership fee
Annual fee paid on Swim Central to RSC
This covers your child’s registration with Swimming Brisbane/Queensland/Australia, insurance, and eligibility to race at any sanctioned meet.
The cost of an annual competitive membership (currently $210) is based on fees set by Swimming Australia. This may be offset by the Queensland government’s Play On! Sports Voucher (worth $200).
2. Training fees
Ongoing fee paid directly to Belgravia
This is a weekly charge that covers squad coaching and pool access.
It is Belgravia Leisure (the operator of Cleveland Aquatic Centre) that employs the coaches, who train every swimmer at the centre. Consequently, this fee is paid directly to Belgravia, not RSC.
For this reason, please contact Cleveland Aquatic Centre for up-to-date squad fees.
3. Race entry fees
Occasional fee paid on Swim Central per event
In addition, your membership fee gives your swimmer access to enter swim meets. Each meet then has its own race entry fee, which covers the cost of running that specific event.
This fee is charged when you choose your swimmer’s races (called a nomination) and you pay it directly to the meet host, on Swim Central.
For a detailed breakdown of typical race entry fees, see How to Enter Meets.
The Swimming season runs 1 July – 30 June
The official membership year is the same as the Australian financial year.
Current members get a grace period until 30 September each year. If you do not renew by 1 October, you will lose access to Swim Central and meet entries.
QUICK QUESTIONS
Do I need to pay all three fees to join?
Yes (sort of) — however, they’re paid at different times and to different places, so you won’t see them as one lump sum. For example, the race entry fee is only paid when entering into a competition.
What happens if I miss the 1 October renewal deadline?
Your swimmer will lose access to Swim Central and won’t be able to enter meets until membership is renewed.
Why are training fees separate from membership?
Because Belgravia Leisure, not RSC, employs the coaches and runs the pool — so this fee goes directly to them.
